ACCA | Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
Established in 1904, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a prominent global professional accounting body that offers the Chartered Certified Accountant qualification. With its headquarters in London and main administrative office in Glasgow, ACCA boasts a membership of 233,000 professionals and 536,000 aspiring members worldwide.
ACCA operates through a network of over 110 offices and centers in 51 countries, supported by 346 Approved Learning Partners (ALP) and more than 7,600 Approved Employers globally who provide development opportunities for their employees. ACCA is also active in regions such as Nepal, India, China, and Pakistan.
The term “Chartered” in the ACCA qualification stems from the Royal Charter granted to the organization in 1974. The title “Chartered Certified Accountant” is legally protected, and individuals must be ACCA members to use this designation. Those engaged in public practice must adhere to additional requirements, including holding a practicing certificate, maintaining liability insurance, and undergoing inspections.
Since 1996, the Association of Authorised Public Accountants (AAPA), another British professional body for public accountants, has been a subsidiary of ACCA.
ACCA is dedicated to serving the public interest by ensuring its members are properly regulated and promoting principles-based regulation. The organization conducts international research to enhance the value of accounting in society and takes progressive positions on global issues to maintain the profession’s reputation and influence.
